Flex, designed by Paul van der Laan, started its life in 1999 as an ambitious project to develop a multi-purpose typeface family, offering extensiveness and multiple appearances. The aim was to make Flex highly readable at very small sizes and simultaneously let it perform very well in bigger sizes as a display typeface. Next to that, the aim was to offer all kinds of typographic refinements like multiple weights, different sorts of figures and small caps for instance. In 2003, after four years of development, the first retail version of Flex was finished which consists of four weights and each single weight includes roman, italic, small caps and different sets of figures. Flex can be bought and downloaded directly from the Bold Monday website. |
